According to M.Medvedev, a chief of the department on protection, restoration and operation of historical and cultural values (heritage) of the Krasnodar region, attraction of investments into economy of the Krasnodar region made possible carrying out full-scale archeological scientific researches in the Tamanneftegas construction area. This is a praiseworthy example of application of main provisions of the current legislation on protection of cultural heritage in the Russian Federation and Krasnodar region.
The Taman land ...
Centuries passed in sequence, people passed on the baton of life and as coins in a coin box left on the earth the items of their activities. Each epoch has its own layer.
The most ancient and deepest layer keeps memory of the first Taman inhabitants, rare archeological evidence confirm their existence. With due respect Tamanneftegas treats the place of their presence, realizing the importance of Taman cultural heritage.
103 burials and 29 objects were examined in barrows. Two burials date back to the bronze era (catacomb culture), 12 burials and 23 objects to — the antique period (III-I centuries BC), the other burials and objects to the early middle Ages (VII-X centuries AD).
In medieval burials were found jugs, flasks, pots, beads and other ornaments, toilet ware, belt kits (numerous figured bronze and lead plaques, whereas bronze buckles are more rare), knives, firestones, a bronze key.
The remains of stone foundations of dwellings were found and excavated in 2004.
In the processes of excavations the numerous pieces of ceramic and osteologic material are found. From other finds there are two copper antique moments, fragments of bronze item, feather part of a flint spearhead. All ceramic material, except for separate finds of antique period, is dated VIII-X centuries AD.
In 2006 Novorossiysk archeologists continued excavations of settlement at clough Lisovitsky. The medieval layer of the settlement that covers all the area of the monument, produced a major part of finds dated VIII-IX centuries. The excavation revealed: 134 household pits and 27 objects representing ceramic tiles, furnace bake stones, clay floors of dwellings, fragments of vessels and amphoras, bones of animals. Two ceramic complexes should be especially mentioned, as they represent small medieval unbroken amphoras and pitched jugs and one, probably ritual burial place.
Instruments of labour are presented by stone millstones, grinding stones, plummets, clay stack-stands, iron knives and awls, an anchor stone. The most interested finds are a figure to play draughts made of bone and two silver Arabian dirhams VIII-IX centuries. The ornaments are few in number, but rather varied in form: glass beads, a disk- pendant made of combination of white and yellow metal, bronze rings, tips of belts, and a bracelet.
The layer of antique time in this-year excavations is not revealed, and this period is presented only by single-unit finds — coins (III century B. C. -III century A. D.) and fragments of amphora ceramics.
Almost all found antiquities are on open access to the public. They are handed over to the Taman archeological museum, where are now stored and exhibited.
OPINION: E.Ustaeva, a senior scientific employee of the Taman archeological museum, chief of archeological expedition of the Taman museum complex:
«In my opinion, Tamanneftegas shows high responsibility and law-abiding actions regarding preservation of objects of cultural heritage. The investor has been financing archeological excavations in the area for many years. According to preliminary researches, there are more than 30 barrow groups and about a dozen of settlements. Museologists, scientists and all residents of the area are interested in preservation of these monuments and its detailed investigation. Taman archeological layers for millenniums store items of exclusive value. During excavations archeologists found a considerable quantity of unique items in the construction area— antique black lacquer ceramics dated IV-III centuries BC, a black crater dated the beginning of VI century BC (a vessel for mixing wine and water), jewelry ornaments— rings, earrings made of bronze and copper, glass items, terracotta figurines and many other things. There was also a sensation. During excavations 2006-2007 of antique settlements Volna-1 and Volna-4 financed by Tamanneftegas archeologists found a burial ground dated the bronze era. The settlements and burial grounds of such early, middle and late bronze era are very rare in this area».
